Hey ya’ll! I am coming at ya with a brand new “weekly” meme thanks to my friend Joe over @ Storeys of Stories! I really liked this idea because it is less commitment on my part (I don’t have to do it EVERY week, only when I start a new book).
Straight from the horse’s mouth (if you will):
First Impression Friday will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther. Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end. Did you think you’d love it and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right? I think what will really make this meme a lot of fun, is linking back to it from your review to say, “Look at how wrong I was!” OR “See? I knew it all along!”
This week (or rather last week since I missed last Friday) I started:
Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi
I picked this up because it is the first book being published under the “Rick Riordan Presents” umbrella, which is an imprint that will be publishing books written by authors who write about their heritage’s mythologies and folklore. This book is based off of Hindu mythology, and the next two books due out under this umbrella are about Mayan and Korean myths.
I feel like I am on the cusp of a major reading slump, so I have had a hard time picking this book up since I got it. I am only on chapter four, and while I was really excited to read it, I am worried that I won’t enjoy it because I am so close to a slump. As of right now, I think I may have to DNF it, but I am going to give it another week or two before I make that decision. My first impression (though somewhat clouded at the moment) would be a 3/5 stars.
If you would like to participate in this meme, please make sure to link back to Joe, since he is the creator :]
Oh No! I loved this book so I’m sorry you’re not enjoying it. I will say, because I wasn’t familiar with Hindu mythology, except for a couple of gods/goddesses, it took me a few chapters to get into it.

Ironically I finished the book last night and ended up really liking it! I think that I was just not in the mood to read at that point and because I took a break and went back to it, I was able to enjoy it, like I knew I would :]

Oh I love this meme!! I do not usually post on Fridays but maybe I should start! I have been seeing this book around a lot lately! I hope you end up loving it!

It is an AWESOME meme. I love that it bends to the individual readers because really, you only post as often as you start a new book, and at least for me, that is maybe once every two-three weeks.
I would LOVE to see your posts under this meme :]

I’ve been so excited for the release of this book! (Mainly based on the cover. I do read books based on their covers.) I have it on hold at the library, so hopefully I’ll get it soon. I am nervous now, though. I don’t want it to be a three-star read for me, too! 😀

It actually ended up being 4.5 for me! (I finished it today) I am excited for her next book, and for the rest of the books under this imprint!
