Friends! This year, June 26th marks the 21 anniversary of Harry Potter and Philosopher’s Stone being published in the U.K.- This June also marks the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone being published in the U.S.! I already posted about ways you can celebrate the US anniversary, which I will leave linked here: 20 Years of Potter in the US. But today, and for the rest of the week, I will be participating in Weird Zeal’s Harry Potter Anniversary Event!
Starting (today) June 20th, and for the week following, I along with other Potterheads will be posting each day leading up to the 21st (and 20th!) Anniversary of Harry Potter. There is a schedule, and you can follow along. You can post as often or as infrequently as you’d like; we just want everyone excited and talking about Harry Potter! (you can find the rules and schedule linked above and right here)
- Link back to one of Weird Zeal‘s post so that she can see all participation!
- Tag your friends and tell them to join as well!
- Have fun 🙂
*I just have to take a brief second to shout out to Perfectly Tolerable for thinking of me, and tagging me in her reblog of the original post! Without you, I would not have known about this event! Thank you so very much for thinking of me! I look forward to seeing your posts this week as well 🙂
Day One: Hogwarts Tag
Today we will be answering questions about our supposed Hogwarts experience!
1. What house are you in?
Pottermore officially places me in Ravenclaw (though I think a previous account had me in a different house). I know that I have strong ties to both Ravenclaw and Huffelpuff, but ultimately identify and claim Ravenclaw as my Hogwarts house.
2. What is your patronus?
Again, according to Pottermore, my patronus is a Marsh Harrier. It looks bird/eagle like, which fits with Ravenclaw, so I suppose that is a good thing?
3. What is your wand?
Redwood. Unicorn hair core. 10″. Slightly yielding flexibility.
The following descriptions are provided by Pottermore.
Redwood wands are not themselves lucky, but are strongly attracted to witches and wizards who already possess the admirable ability to fall on their feet, to make the right choice, to snatch advantage from catastrophe.
Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard. Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may ‘die’ and need replacing.
4. What would your boggart be?
This is a tough one honestly. I am more afraid of events than things. So maybe a giant bug of some kind?
5. What position would you play in Quidditch?
I’ve thought a lot about this one as well. If I were good enough to actually play, I think I would be a chaser. They have the most straight forward job that doesn’t involve blocking.
6. Would you be a pure blood, half blood or muggle born?
I would probably be half or muggle to be honest.
7. What job would you want after to have after graduating Hogwarts?
Most likely a professor at Hogwarts, or something in the Ministry that does not involve a whole lot of outside the office work. Maybe work for the Daily Prophet?
8. Which of the deathly hallows would you choose?
I think I would choose the Elder Wand.
9. Favourite book?
My favorite book in the series changes periodically. After reading all of Orangutan Librarian‘s analysis’s of the books, I think that Sorcerer’s (Philosopher’s) Stone or Chamber of Secrets are my ultimate favorites.
P.S.- the OG U.S. covers are still my favorite.
10. Least favourite book?
SO. MUCH. ANGST!
11. Favourite film?
To me, this was the closest to the books the movies ever got. I actually think that Chris Columbus’s movies were the best in the series for that reason (this and Chamber of Secrets). Once they started changing director’s, more liberties were taken, starting with one of my biggest pet peeves, the disappearance of the uniform cloaks. But I digress. I adore this movie. I know every word to this movie. It was so so good.
12. Least favourite film?
Uhggg so much is wrong about this movie. They completely butchered the plot- it barely covers half of what the book did, and it was so much more campy than the book. This movie was full of jokes and comedic moments, where I remember this being an incredibly dark book due to Tom Riddle’s back story and the start of the hunt. I just really hate how different it was from the book.
13. Favourite character?
14. Least favourite/most hated character?
I still stand by my claim that she was more loathsome than Voldemort, more evil than Voldemort.
15. Favourite teacher at Hogwarts?
What a beast. How can you not love her?
16. Least favorite teacher at Hogwarts?
Lockhart should never have been hired. All the other professors knew he was a fraud. I cannot believe that Dumbledore thought he was worthy of teaching. He had no business being at Hogwarts, period.
Him and Umbridge were the worst classes to read about.
17. Do you have any unpopular opinions about the series?
I am and forever will be a Harry/Hermione shipper. They belonged together. Their relationship and understanding of each other runs so deep, much more than her and Ron ever had. It just always made sense to me, those two. I don’t even care if people get angry about it anymore.
18. If you could save one character from the finale battle who would you save?
I might say Lupin. I think that he had so much more to offer. He could have taken back his position at Hogwarts and kids would have been guaranteed a good education.
ayyyy! Day one is complete! PLEASE feel free to participate in this event! I am NOT going to tag anyone because I know that I spam ya’ll enough with Harry Potter but if you want to show HP a little love, check out Werid Zeal’s page for the rest of the week’s schedule. Keep your eyes peeled for the rest of my participation posts throughout the rest of the week!
