Hey ya’ll! I am coming at ya with a brand new “weekly” meme thanks to my friend Joe over @ Storeys of Stories! I really liked this idea because it is less commitment on my part (I don’t have to do it EVERY week, only when I start a new book).
Straight from the horse’s mouth (if you will):
First Impression Friday will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther. Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end. Did you think you’d love it and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right? I think what will really make this meme a lot of fun, is linking back to it from your review to say, “Look at how wrong I was!” OR “See? I knew it all along!”
This week I started:
Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett
Uh, can we just admire this gorgeous cover for a moment? It feels so sumemr-y and I just love looking at it. I just feel like this is the PERFECT summer read right now.
From what I gathered by the description, its a Romeo/Juliet-esque story where two teenagers from family enemies get stuck in the wilderness alone together when a camping trip goes wrong. They are forced to hash out their differences and deep rooted feelings, and more than likely come out on good terms. What intrigues me the most is the question at the end about whether their new friendship can stand up to reality (once they exit the woods), which leads me to believe that their is more to this story than just the conflict at the camping trip.
I have heard nothing but high praises for Jenn Bennett since re-joining the bookish world, and have been looking forward to picking this up since I got it a few months ago (you can see it featured in this Mini Book Haul). I have not read Alex, Approximately, which is supposedly contemporary gold, but I imagine that if I come out of this one really happy I will probably buy it in preparation for another new book by her, Serious Moonlight, due out sometime in the Spring of 2019. I am going in skeptical though! Currently, I have only finished the first chapter so I do not feel like I have a good enough vibe on the book just yet, but I predict either a 3.5 or 4 out of five star rating for this one. We shall see what happens!
