First Impression Friday- Stalking Jack the Ripper

Hey ya’ll! I am coming at ya with a “weekly” meme thanks to my friend Joe over @ Storeys of Stories! I really liked this idea because it is less commitment on my part (I don’t have to do it EVERY week, only when I start a new book) and gets me talking about books I have just started (or want to start very soon).

Straight from the horse’s mouth (if you will):

First Impression Friday will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther.  Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end.  Did you think you’d love it and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right? I think what will really make this meme a lot of fun, is linking back to it from your review to say, “Look at how wrong I was!” OR “See? I knew it all along!”

This week I started:

I haven’t done one of these in quite a while (a couple weeks to be exact) and it feels good to be back! I have decided that the wait is finally over. With October looming the distance, I thought it would be a good idea to finally start this series this week. I have had SJR on my TBR for months now, and regardless of not even reading the first book yet, somehow managed to collect (and now own) the entire series. I have grown tired of looking at these (gorgeous) spines, and finally picked up the first book in the series.

To be honest, I really don’t know too much about the book. I know that a lot of people love the series, and that a handful of people really just do not like it (Emma from Emmabooks on Youtube comes to mind). But I was really drawn to the dark, historical feel of these books. I have heard amazing things about the couple in this series as well, so I am also looking forward to that- I could really use a distraction from my Lara Jean/Peter K. obsession. Other than the gorgeous covers, and the title- oh, and MEETING Kerri Maniscalco at Book Expo in June- that is about all I know.

That all being said, I haven’t actually opened the book yet, though by the time this is posted, I hope to have at least read the first couple of pages. Hard to judge a book by it’s cover, but I am hoping for at least a 4 out of 5 stars for this read. There is a lot of hype behind this series so I am going in with high hopes. I have plans to binge the entire series (thus far) so expect more of those books to pop up in the coming weeks!

This was fun! What are you guys starting this week? Have you read the Stalking Jack the Ripper series? What are your thoughts on it? Let’s chat!

  1. This one’s been on my radar for a while, but I wasn’t interested at first. Part of me thought it was just some romance book. Then I read The Lodger, also involving Jack the Ripper, and I kind of fell into a fascination hole over the Jack the Ripper murders, and suddenly this book was on my TBR! Still might take a while to get to, but I’m glad you’re excited for it.

    1. I know what you mean. I wasn’t super interested at first, and if I am being honest, the first couple pages are making me not entirely sure it’s for me, BUT I own the entire series thus far…I feel an obligation to at least give it a good try. I will certainly let you know how it goes!

  2. I really enjoyed this book a lot! I definitely feel like it’s not quite as amazing as it got hyped to be, but I still had a great time reading it. Buuuuuut, I never got around to the rest of the series. I just don’t read a whole series unless it’s my FAVORITE THING EVEEERRRR these days.

  3. What a fun idea this one is! It is pretty hard to really predict what would be going on in a book based on a few pages but still it sounds lik a lot of a fun. Also I have to say that I really love the cover for this book. Hopefully it will live up the hype, and the series itself will all be worthwhile reads. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this one 😊
