I have seen this meme throughout the community and thought it would make a nice addition to my TBR Tuesday post. It was originally created by Lost in a Story, but I see it all over the place.
Here’s how is works (in case you aren’t sure):
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
The last few times I did this, I went into random parts of my Want To Read shelf on Goodreads but now that it is over 500 books, I think starting at the beginning, with the books sitting there the longest, is overdue.

11/22/63 – Stephen King
I actually own this book. I mean I was a history major, so the historical aspect is appealing to me. And at the time, I had just finished Under the Dome which I surprisingly liked, so it made me want to pick up another King book. BUT this book is a brick. It has been on my physical TBR for years and I just haven’t given it a chance. I do hope to one day get to it though…
Verdict: Keep
Bossypants – Tina Fey
Sooo when I first discovered Goodreads, naturally I started logging all the books I already owned. This is another one I have had for a really long time. It is pretty widely liked. And yet? I just don’t think I will read it anytime in the near future. I don’t think I will unhaul it, but I think I will remove it from my TBR for now.
Verdict: Cut
The Cuckoo’s Calling – Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling)
I don’t think I own this one. If I do, it is at my parent’s house at the moment. I mean the obvious draw is that it is an adult book written by JK Rowling. I also kind of dig the cover. But after re-reading the description on Goodreads, I am not too sure I am really into this one anymore. I mean it is deff better than her other book Casual Vacancy, BUT I just don’t think it is something I want to read right now.
Verdict: Cut
Wicked – Gregory Maguire
Another one I own, another one I am reluctant to let go of just yet. I do still want to read this eventually, I just don’t know when that will be.
Verdict: Keep
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – Ken Kesey
I was supposed to buddy read this with a friend many moons ago. I started to and ended up not picking it back up after about 20 pages. I own this one too, but I think it is about time to say that I probably will never read this one.
Verdict: Cut
Handle with Care – Jodi Picoult
I really really liked this author back in the day. I tried to read all her books. I might even own a copy of this one. But at some point I stopped reading her books. I won a giveaway for her newest one, A Spark of Light but haven’t picked it up yet. I think that I liked her because she was super daring and took on some controversial topics. However, I just don’t know about this one..
Verdict: Cut
The Blind Side – Michael Lewis
Hey hey! Another one I own. I loved this movie, and I really love football, BUT I don’t see myself reading this anytime soon. Again, I probably won’t unhaul it because it may be something my fiance may be interested in reading but I don’t think it needs to be on my TBR any longer.
Verdict: Cut
Best Friends Forever – Jennifer Weiner
This is an interesting one. I know at one point she was like the quintessential contemporary author, but I personally have only read one of her books. However, I did very much enjoy that one. And judging by the description, it still seems like something I might pick up when I need a quick read.
Verdict: Keep
Cleopatra: A Life – Stacy Schiff
I like a good bio, and I used to be obsessed with Ancient Egypt when I was young. Somehow though, biographies just don’t seem to find their way to my TBRs anymore, so I think sadly, that I will have to remove it from the list. I own this one though, and don’t intend to unhaul it.
Verdict: Cut
Decision Points – George W. Bush
I actually already read quite a bit of this book, and it was much better than I anticipated. I was really into it! But I was also at university and ran out of time to read for pleasure. I ended up putting this book down and not picking it back up. But I am still interested in it! But like Cleopatra, it may be a while before I get to it again.
Verdict: Cut
The President’s Club: Inside the World’s Most Exclusive Fraternity – Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy
More history I don’t have time for. BUT it is absolutely something I want to read eventually. I find Presidents to be so interesting.
Verdict: Cut

This was a particularly critical Down the TBR Hole! I removed a bunch of things I didn’t think I would get to anytime soon – though most of them I own, and don’t see unhauling. Stay tuned to the next Down the TBR Hole to see what other ancient books remain on my shelves :]
Oh you cut down a lot! haha, I had a hard time with this ahah
