The Cliché Book Tag

So I have been taking an unspoken break from tags for a while now. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been stock piling them for a rainy day! And since today is a literal rainy day, I thought I might dust one off for you. I saw this tag on Whimsically Meghan back in July (I think). Meghan is pretty freaking awesome, especially when it comes to tags. She has an entire section of her page dedicated to them so if you are looking for some to save up for later, consider checking out hers right here. I also borrowed the header from Life and Other Disasters because I was too lazy to make my own :] So thank you again to both awesome ladies for giving me something to do today ! And with that, let’s get into it.

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS

|| A Book That Wasn’t Or Couldn’t Be Better Than The Movie ||

I am pretty sure I remember reading this book and being let down but that was obviously after seeing this iconic movie. There is nothing anyone can say to me to convince me that the book was better than this adaption. There just is no way.

THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE

|| A Rags To Riches Or Riches To Rags Story ||

I think I’m going to go with Warcross for this one. Emika is really down on her luck when she accidentally glitches into the biggest championship opener in the world and becomes a sensation. She is flown to Tokyo to participate in the games and work on a little side project for the creator himself. She is thrown into a life of fame and fortune and I don’t know how much more “riches” you can possibly get!

THE APPLE DOES NOT FALL FAR FROM THE TREE

|| A Parent Child Relationship That You Love ||

I think the obvious choice for me is Hans and Liesel in The Book Thief. Hans and his wife took Liesel in when her mother had nowhere else to go. His relationship with her is so warm and caring, it was the absolute highlight of the whole awful book.

YOU CAN’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER

|| A Great Book That Needs A Better Cover ||

I very much did not like the cover for A Very Large Expanse of Sea. I think it could have been way better.

YOU CAN’T PLEASE EVERYONE

|| A Book You Hate That Everyone Loves ||

I know a lot of people really loved Turtles All the Way Down but I just really did not. It was too chaotic for me. It didn’t have a plot, and the whole way it was written felt very jumbled, which I get was the point, but just not something I like reading personally.

WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER

|| What’s A Book That Made You A Better Person For Having Read It ||

That’s an easy one. After reading The Hate U Give, it really opened my eyes up to those types of books and authors. I now am much more conscious of #ownvoice novels, and try my best to promote and support them.

LOVE IS BLIND

|| A Book With A Disabled Character Or Actual Blind Love ||

The first book I thought of with a disabled character is El Deafo. It is about a girl named Cece who is in a public school for the first time and worried about other kids not understanding or making fun of her “sonic ear”

IGNORANCE IS BLISS

|| A Book That Is Bad But You Just Don’t Want To Admit It ||

The only one I can think of for this is The Wicked Deep. Back when it was published there was a lot of controversy about certain scenes involving consent and things of that nature. But regardless of everyone’s concerns with those parts, it still had one of the absolute best atmospheric writing I have ever personally read and has therefore made it a favorite of mine.

THERE IS NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT

|| What Is Your Favourite Contemporary Book? ||

Yikes. I LOVE the contemporary genre so this is a tough one. As of right now I would probably say The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Nothing quite got me like that book has. But there are oh so many close ones.

BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY

|| A Book You Don’t Want To Read In Case It’s Bad ||

The first one I thought of for this one is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I know so so many people love this book/duology and it just makes me so nervous that I won’t like it and like let everyone down? Not be part of the club? I almost rather sit in ignorant bliss…Also. I don’t want to read the Grisha trilogy and I know you don’t have to but again I suffer from FOMO and would be worried I’d miss something important.

  1. Yeah I’m not keen on that very large expanse of sea cover either. I felt the same way about wicked deep- it’s really murky on some things like consent, but the writing and atmosphere was so good. I loved evelyn hugo. Ah I hear you about six of crows- I put it off for a really long time for that reason- but it ended up being so worth it! Awesome answers!
