Hey ya’ll! I am coming at ya with a “weekly” meme thanks to my friend Joe over @ Storeys of Stories! I really liked this idea because it is less commitment on my part (I don’t have to do it EVERY week, only when I start a new book) and gets me talking about books I have just started (or want to start very soon).
Straight from the horse’s mouth (if you will):
First Impression Friday will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther. Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end. Did you think you’d love it and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right? I think what will really make this meme a lot of fun, is linking back to it from your review to say, “Look at how wrong I was!” OR “See? I knew it all along!”
This week I started:
American Royals by Katharine McGee
What if Washington accepted a crown at the conclusion of the Revolutionary War? This book takes place in an American monarchy, where the house of Washington still reins. It stars three royal siblings; Princess Beatrice is in line to be America’s very first Queen (after her grandfather abolished the archaic rule that stated the throne be handed down to the eldest son rather than eldest child). The “spare” Princess Samantha is walking chaos because no one cares what she does, and neither does she. And Prince Jefferson, who according to the old rule would have been king, but now is mostly focused on the attention of two different girls. Basically, this is a reality show with American Royals. I have heard some really good things about this one, and after how much I loved Red White and Royal Blue (Casey McQuiston) in 2019, I could use another royal fix.
I am not even close to a judging point yet. In fact, I have yet to open it! But I have been carrying it around in hopes of actually getting some reading done. I won’t be a fair guess, but as of right now based on other reviews and the synopsis, I think I will rate this a 4 out of 5 stars.
Have you read this yet? What do you think?
